Impact of Giving
Dylan Alcott
Foundation
The Dylan Alcott
Foundation Scholarship,
established with the goal
of removing barriers
for young people living
with disability, has
given Daphne Dale
the resources she
needs to excel in her
studies and explore
all the possibilities the
Bachelor of Science
degree has to offer.
Daphne has lived her whole life with a
physical disability called Osteogenesis
Imperfecta, a condition which causes her
bones to be fragile and break easily. This
meant Daphne often missed school due
to broken bones and dislocated joints.
Now undertaking the Bachelor of
Science with a dream of pursuing marine
biology, Daphne is extremely passionate
about studying the natural world, but
initially found university challenging as
she was focused on finding paid work
to cover travel and study expenses.
However, the Scholarship has removed
some financial stress and allowed
Daphne to invest in accessibility aids
to help her complete her assignments
and seek volunteer opportunities.
“At the Dylan Alcott Foundation, we
believe in equal opportunities for all
individuals, and the transformative
power of education. Our hope is to
create lasting change, where the
students we support feel as though
they have the backing to succeed.
We want to give students the best
chance to enjoy their studies, be
social and enjoy the full university
experience,” said Dylan Alcott AO.
“The university experience has a lot
to offer, not simply the study and
qualification, but being part of a
community, meeting new people, having
all that social engagement, sharing your
experiences and testing your own ideas
and thoughts in a broader context.
“This scholarship will go a long way to
sustaining a student while they are at
uni, and the Dylan Alcott Foundation
is so delighted to be partnering
with the University to make the
scholarship happen,” Dylan said.
This year Daphne has enjoyed making
new friends and attending field trips,
and she’s excited about what the future
holds, hoping to find employment where
she can share her love for marine biology
and palaeobiology with the world.
“I want to say thank
you to the donors for
this scholarship – I am
so grateful for your
belief in me and others
like me.” Daphne
